Dr. Rita Hauser, a leading figure in international law, human rights, and philanthropy, will take part in a public lunchtime conversation at Duke Law School on Oct. 5. President of the Hauser Foundation and chair of the International Peace Institute, a United Nations affiliate, Hauser will discuss her life in law and public service with Duke Law Dean David F. Levi.

This event will begin at 12:15 p.m. in room 3037 at Duke Law School, located at the corner of Science Drive and Towerview Road on Duke’s West Campus. Parking is available at the Bryan Center. A light lunch will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Of counsel to the New York City law firm of Strook & Strook & Lavan where she was a partner for more than 20 years, Hauser serves as chair of the Advisory Board of the International Crisis Group and on the Geneva-based Foundation Board of the Global Humanitarian Forum, chaired by Kofi Annan. She chairs The American Ditchley Foundation and is a director of the International Advisory Council of The Lowy Institute for International Policy in Australia and the International Board of The Center for International Governance Innovation in Canada, among other significant leadership posts, present and past. From 2001 to 2004 she served on the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board.

Hauser chairs the advisory board of the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations at Harvard University, which she and her husband, Gustave, founded in 1997. They also were instrumental in establishing the Hauser Global Law School Program at New York University Law School, of which Hauser is a trustee.
