Inter-Regional Enforcement of Judgments: Can China Learn from the U.S. and E.U.?
12:15 PM, Law School 4047
Jie Huang, Lecturer at the School of Law, Shanghai Institute for Foreign Trade, to speak. Judgment recognition and enforcement (JRE) between US sister states, between EU member states, and between Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao, are in the category of "inter-regional" JRE. This paper presentation will examine what lessons China may draw from the US and the EU. It first discusses the status quo of the inter-regional JRE in China. Then it explores how the inter-regional economic integration demands the establishment of a multilateral inter-regional JRE arrangement in China. Finally it points out the four most crucial challenges in developing this arrangement. It proposes solutions to each challenge by comparative studies. Sponsored by the Society for East Asian Legal Studies (SEALS). For more information, contact David Russo at david.russo@law.duke.edu.
