Office of Student Affairs
The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) is here to create a welcoming and safe environment for students by providing support for personal, academic, or professional issues. Members of OSA helps students develop a foundation for life at the Law School by providing support services, connecting students with resources, and facilitating relationships between students, faculty, and the staff.
OSA should be the first stop for all students, the place to go when you need answers, help, suggestions, and support. Have a question about your schedule or need advice about your post-graduate life? Want to propose a new student organization or talk to someone about a roommate problem? Our open-door policy means that we're always here to listen and point you in the right direction. The many services that OSA offers include:
- Welcome new students and facilitate the transition to Law School
- Provide advice about course requirements and resources for academic success
- Counsel students about graduation requirements and oversee commencement activities
- Educate students about the Honor Code, academic integrity and other policies at the Law School, as well as enforce those policies
- Promote discussion of health and wellness during Law School and beyond
- Oversee certification for the Bar
- Act as advisors to the more than 40 student organizations on campus, providing information about regulations, fundraising and event planning
- Manage requests for special accommodations in class or during exams
- Refer students to appropriate resources, such as Counseling and Psychological Services
Leadership is a central aspect of life at Duke Law. The OSA is guided by the Duke Blueprint to LEAD, or Lawyer Education and Development, a powerful set of principles for leadership growth. Its ideas and spirit are present in all that we do, from classrooms and clinics, to our intensive new student orientation: LEAD week, to activities like International Week, leadership retreats, and Community Roundtable meetings.
We encourage students to become active participants in life at Duke Law School and to stop by our office for questions or advice.
