Star of David—a generally recognized symbol of Jewish Community and Judaism |
|
JLSA is the social and cultural outlet for Jewish students at Duke Law School. It has duel focuses, secular programming and Jewish identity. JLSA fosters community among the Jewish community at Duke but is open to everyone. Throughout the year, JLSA organizes a Lunch ‘N Learn speaker series, bagel brunches, and mixers with other Jewish and non-Jewish student groups. JLSA also organizes community service efforts in Durham. In addition to secular programming, JLSA promotes Jewish identity. There are thriving reform, conservative, and orthodox Jewish communities at Duke. JLSA coordinates with groups outside of the law school to arrange for Shabbat and holiday services, as well as social events. JLSA works with incoming law students to help them integrate into the law school as well as transition to living in Durham. JLSA is considered a minority student organization and as such advises the administration of matters affecting its members. |
