Charter

I. Name: Health Law Society

II. Purpose
The Health Law Society is an interdisciplinary organization of students and faculty with interests in exploring professional and academic aspects of health care. The Society focuses on the following general areas: curricular expansion and integration, public service and education, and professional development. HLS draws on the surrounding academic community to bring educational events to the law school, and draw on the diverse resources available within our membership to build the understanding of health care law issues within the law school.

III. Membership
Membership is open to all Duke Law Students, medical students, and public policy students.

IV. Meetings
Meetings are held monthly and are open to the student body. At the beginning of each academic year HLS collects contact information (email addresses) from interested students, and additional coordination is handled on an ad hoc basis.

IV. Officers & Duties
A. Co-Presidents
1. Facilitate HLS meetings
2. Plan activities
3. Work towards expanding HLS participation

B. Speaker Chair
1. Coordinates logistics of bringing speakers in for HLS events, including delegation of these tasks to other HLS members.
C. Treasurer / Secretary
1. Maintains all financial records and records of written correspondence
2. Oversees all payments to and from the group
3. Plans yearly budget with assistance of officers
D. Webmaster
1. Responsible for creating and maintaining webpage.

V. Elections
Officer appointments are by nomination (self or otherwise). Contested appointments are settled by majority vote of all group members.

VI. Amendments
This charter may be amended by a majority vote of all group members.
