American Trial Lawyers Association

The Duke University School of Law Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) Chapter is a student organization dedicated to the development and practice of trial advocacy skills. We hold numerous events each year designed to introduce students to the practice of trial law.

Many students are given the chance to compete in both regional and national mock trial competitions throughout the school year. This past year, students entered the UNC 1L Mock Trial Competition as well as several ATLA-sponsored competitions nationally. ATLA is constantly looking for opportunities for students to compete in mock trial competitions. Students are provided with expert coaches from the student body and the school's faculty.

ATLA also holds various events designed to instruct students on trial law. These events include lectures from faculty and some of North Carolina's and the nation's top trial lawyers demonstrating what to do and not to do in the courtroom. ATLA offers unique opportunities for students who have an interest in litigation or trial advocacy.
