Honorable Diana Gribbon Motz will speak about the Violence Against Women Act, constitutional interpretation, and individual rights generally. She will also take questions.
Since 1994, Judge Motz has been a Circuit Judge in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. She graduated from Vassar College with a B.A. in 1965 and received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1968. After graduating from law school, she worked as an Associate at Piper & Marbury in Baltimore. She was Assistant Attorney General from 1972-81, and Chief of Litigation from 1982-86 in the Office of Attorney General of Maryland. After leaving the Attorney General's Office, she worked at the law firm of Frank, Bernstein, Conaway & Goldman until 1991 when she was appointed to the bench as an Associate Judge on the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland. She is a member of the American Law Institute, American Bar Foundation, Maryland Bar Foundation and was named one of Maryland's Top 100 Women by the Daily Record in 1996.

  • career choices which permit you to pursue liberal ideaological goals through litigation, such as plaintiff's civil practice, criminal defense practice, or government practice;
  • doing pro bono work in whatever career path you choose;
  • any other questions you would like to ask him.
    Prof. Simon teaches Complex Civil Litigation and Real World Litigation here at Duke. Since graduating from Duke Law School in 1973, he has clerked for Judge Hill (Federal District Court), served as lead or co-lead counsel in numberous securities and antitrust suits, and worked in the DC office of corporate firm Arnold and Porter, and the San Diego office of Milberg, Weiss, Bershad, Hynes & Lerach, a preeminent plaintiff's class action firm.
