Race Judicata 5K grows in second year

Duke Law students, professors, and administrators joined together in on Nov. 15 for a little friendly competition on the Al Buhler Trail in the school’s second annual Race Judicata. The 5K run, which raises funds to support law students pursuing public interest summer positions, nearly doubled last year’s participation with 78 entrants, and raised over $1,000.

Winners included James Pearce ’11 and Reed Lyon ’10 in the men’s division (tied at 17:51), Nicholas student Maggie Clary in the women’s division (21:37), and Professor Paul Haagen’s Jack Russell Terrier, Eliza, in the canine division. Duke Law professors and administrators in attendance included Kim Bart, Jason Belk, Stella Boswell, James Boyle, Jennifer Jenkins ’97, Jedediah Purdy, John Spencer, and Jonathan Wiener. Dean David F. Levi and his wife, Nancy, were also on hand to start the race.

After the race, runners enjoyed food from Jimmy John's and Bruegger's. Other local businesses, including Townsend Bertram & Co., Brooklyn Pizzeria, Chai's Noodle Bar, Noodles & Company, T.G.I. Friday's, Locopops, Local Yogurt, Panera, Vespa, and Devines, contributed prizes for the winners.

The 2009 organizing committee thanks all the runners, local businesses, and volunteers who made this year’s race so successful.
