Genetics, Genomics, and the Law: Register for Law School's Summer Institute

How is it possible for a private company to "own" a gene? What are genetic and genomic databanks and how is individual privacy implicated in their development? Does and should the law protect against rationally-based genetic discrimination?

Learn the answers to these and other questions in this important and growing area of the law at the Summer Institute in Genetics, Genomics and the Law, co-sponsored by the Law School and Duke's Center for Genome Ethics, Law and Policy. The three-day institute is scheduled August 23-25 at Duke Law School and is designed to offer professionals working in law, business, journalism, government and other fields a basic grounding in the legal and ethical issues raised by the rapid advancements in genetic technology.

Registration is $495 per person and includes continental breakfast, lunch and dinner on Thursday; and continental breakfast and lunch on Friday and Saturday. The Washington Duke Inn (www.washingtondukeinn.com) is holding a block of rooms at a special rate of $145 a night for conference participants and is located a short walk from the Law School.
