Janet Halley to give Brainerd Currie Memorial Lecture
November 7, 2002
Janet Halley, a professor of law at Harvard University and a leading scholar in the relationship between gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, class, nationality and the law, will speak at
Duke Law School on Nov. 7 as part of the Brainerd Currie Memorial Lecture Series.
Her speech, entitled "A Map of Feminist and Queer Theories of Sexuality and Sexual Regulation," will begin at noon in Room 3043. A reception will follow on the 3rd Floor Loggia.
Professor Halley, the author of "Don't: A Reader's Guide to the Military's Anti-Gay Policy," focuses much of her scholarship on the regulation of sexuality in American society, from her
ground-breaking work on sexual harassment to the military's policy toward gays as well as her teaching of family law.
The Brainerd Currie series began more than 25 years ago to honor Professor Currie, a noted scholar who was best known for his introduction of the concept of governmental interest analysis
to the field of conflict of laws. Recent lecturers in the series have included Sanford Levinson, Robert Post, Robert Litan, Martha Minow, Bob Ellickson and Sir Kenneth Keith.
The lecture will be available for viewing via live webcast.
