Professor Dr. Hein D. Kötz to give inaugural Herbert L. Bernstein Memorial Lecture in International
September 10 2002
Professor Dr. Hein D. Kötz, Dean of Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany and a noted scholar in comparative law, will give the inaugural Herbert L. Bernstein Memorial Lecture in
International and Comparative Law on September 10, 2002 at noon at Duke Law School.
The Herbert L. Bernstein Memorial Lecture series was established earlier this year in recognition of Professor Bernstein, a specialist in contract, comparative and private international law
and 17-year veteran of the Law School faculty who died unexpectedly in 2001.
In this year's lecture, Professor Kötz will address the essential differences between the European and American civil justice systems and their relevance to reform. Prior to becoming Dean
of Bucerius Law School in 2000, Professor Kötz was director of the Max Planck Institute in Hamburg, where he was a colleague of Professor Bernstein and also was a member of the University
of Hamburg law faculty.
The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Lisa Wechsler, Director of Special International Projects, at wechsler@law.duke.edu.
