Amy Curry and Rita Trivedi to Present Third-year Capstone Projects

Duke Law’s Capstone Committee will hear presentations by 3Ls Amy Curry and Rita Trivedi, April 30, as part of the final requirement for completion of their individual Capstone Projects. Selected and designed by students based on their academic and professional interests, the Third-year Captsone Project involves the completion of both an academic research paper and an additional stand-alone component.

Arising from an interest in fair housing law and her work in the Community Enterprise Clinic, Curry’s project involves the creation of a fair housing handbook for developers of affordable housing. Working under the supervision of Clinical Professor Andrew Foster, director of the Community Enterprise Clinic, and Mark Dorosin, the Clinic’s supervising attorney, Curry also helped a coalition of North Carolina non-profits prepare to file suit against three municipalities for violations of fair housing laws. Her academic paper discusses issues and policy related to fair housing law.

Supervised by Professor Catherine Fisk, Trivedi’s Captsone Project grows out of a domestic externship she completed in the fall addressing labor dispute matters for a private entity. As part of her project, Trivedi created a handbook for employers designed to guide them in the creation and implementation of grievance procedures. The handbook focuses on alternatives for the unionized and non-unionized workplace and includes a plain-English recommendation of the role of arbitration, as well as the legal issues to consider when drawing up various dispute resolution frameworks. Trivedi’s academic paper explores the many issues surrounding arbitration.

Both projects will be presented Monday, April 30 in the Nasher Conference Room. Only faculty may attend.
