Launched in January 2006, Duke’s Low-income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) assists North Carolina taxpayers with matters pending before the IRS, including collections, audits of income tax returns, and appeals of adverse rulings. One of the School’s four in-house legal clinics, the LITC is staffed by students who, under the close supervision of Clinic Director Alan Weinberg, conduct client interviews, gather facts and relevant documentation, and research the law to effectively represent clients before the IRS.
Students in the Low-income Taxpayer Clinic represent clients in tax disputes pending before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), under Weinberg’s supervision. Weinberg has almost 40 years experience in tax law, 29 of them as counsel for the IRS and another 10 with Ernst & Young.
