This bibliography contains the main works in the law library dealing with North Carolina law, although electronic access is noted where available. Not all publications of the bar association are included.

There are two choices for researching statutes in North Carolina. The General Statutes of North Carolina, the official version published by Lexis Publishing, and West's North Carolina General Statutes Annotated. Both are located in the North Carolina Alcove and also with the other state codes on Level 2. The statutes are also available on the North Carolina General Assembly's web page at http://www.ncga.state.nc.us. This site also includes the texts of bills and bill status information since the 1995-96 legislative session. For an annual survey of new legislation passed by the General Assembly, see North Carolina Legislation (Ref. KFN 7821 .N864).

The official North Carolina reporters and the North Carolina Reporter, containing North Carolina cases from the Southeastern Reporter, as well as the North Carolina Digest and Shepard's North Carolina Citations, are in the North Carolina Alcove. Additional copies of the official reporters are on Level 2 in KFN. Decisions of the North Carolina Supreme Court and Court of Appeals since mid-1997 are also available on the Administrative Office of the Courts' web page at http://www.aoc.state.nc.us/www/public/html/opinions.htm.

Briefs for many North Carolina Supreme Court and Court of Appeals cases are located in the NC Briefs collection on Level 1, organized by opinion citation. Briefs and records for cases filed beginning in 2000 are available at: http://www.ncappellatecourts.org/nc_main_1.nsf . (Click Browse under Library on the left.) Recent briefs from the Supreme Court are also on microfiche in the Microforms Room.

Proposed executive agency regulations are first published in the North Carolina Register (weekly), and once passed, are incorporated into the North Carolina Administrative Code. Both the Register and the Code are located in the North Carolina Alcove and at: http://reports.oah.state.nc.us/ncac.asp .

For current awareness and news about North Carolina law and lawyers see North Carolina Lawyers Weekly (North Carolina Alcove and online at http://www.nclawyersweekly.com/signup/login.cfm; see Reference Desk for login information).
