Duke University Law Library: Collection Development Policy:International Legal Materials
COLLECTION POLICY
The Library collects legal documents of IGOs based on the following factors:
- faculty research interest in either a region or a subject
- course(s) on the subject
- strong historical collection that should be maintained
- seminar(s) on the subject with required research paper(s)
- availability of materials in other campus libraries
- consortium agreements (e.g. TRLN)
- student research interest in either a region or a subject
- budget considerations
- developing areas of law
- topic of interest to the law reviews edited at the law school
- interest from students/faculty outside the law school
The Collection Development Committee will consider these factors in conjunction with the collecting levels described below when making decisions about individual acquisitions. In addition, the Collection Development Committee will consider if the material is available in a reliable electronic format. For example, the Library would buy a book on a specialized subject for a Level 1 international organization if there is faculty interest in that subject; or the Library might not acquire primary legal documents for a Level 4 international organization if they are available in a reliable electronic format.
