Duke University Law Library: Collection Development Policy: Introduction
Cooperative Collection Development
Cooperative collection development and resource sharing agreements at the local, regional and national levels, have become an integral part of the library collection development program. They allow
the library to rely on other collections for materials that are often beyond the collection scope of the law library. The law library has entered into the following cooperative agreements:
Duke Campus Libraries
The general law library policy is not to duplicate materials in other University libraries unless it is necessary because of high demand, class use, or inconvenience in access if not present in the
law library.
TRLN (Triangle Research Libraries Network)
Along with other Duke libraries and the libraries of UNC, NC State, and NCCU, the law library is a member of TRLN. These institutions share the DRA system for the online catalog and coordinate
projects in collection development and document delivery.
COSELL (Consortium of Southeastern Law Libraries)
COSELL members allow for free interlibrary loan. Additionally, a group discount purchasing project is in place with Yankee Book Peddler. Further efforts are underway to develop cooperative
agreements in areas of foreign and international law.
RLG (Research Libraries Group)
The library joined RLG in 1991. It recently joined the ShaRes program which provides reciprocal resource sharing among the largest research libraries, including expedited ILL and photocopies.
