Submissions

The Duke Journal of Comparative & International Law is now accepting submissions for Volume 20.

General Information
The Duke Journal of Comparative & International Law seeks to publish original scholarship on international, transnational, and comparative law. The DJCIL welcomes submissions from professors and practitioners.

Timing
We will review and accept submissions on a rolling basis through the end of August. Since acceptances are made on a rolling basis, we encourage authors to submit manuscripts as early as possible.

We accept submissions online through ExpressO and by email at djcil@law.duke.edu.

Submit via Regular Mail
If you are unable to submit electronically, we will accept submissions via regular mail. We prefer that submissions by regular mail include an electronic copy on disk or CD.

Requirements
The DJCIL has a strong preference for articles of fewer than 35,000 words (or roughly 70 law review pages), including footnotes; longer articles will only be published in exceptional circumstances. Shorter essays are welcomed.

All articles should be submitted in English. The text should be double-spaced and footnotes must conform with The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (18th ed.). Authors should be prepared to supply any cited sources upon request.

Expedited Reviews
In limited cases, we can expedite the review of a submitted article if the author is facing strict response deadlines by other journals that have already accepted the article. To request an expedited review, please send an email to djcil@law.duke.edu. (Please include "Request for Expedited Review: TITLE OF ARTICLE" in the subject heading.)

Please provide the following information in your correspondence:
  1. Author name and contact information (phone and email)
  2. Article title
  3. Journals that have accepted the article
  4. Deadlines those journals have given the author
  5. The latest possible date that the author can be given a decision
The DJCIL will try to accommodate authors’ requests.

Selection Process
The DJCIL’s Articles Editors will carefully review your article once it is received. Upon recommendation of the Articles Editors, the Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision regarding publication. Typically, Duke Law School faculty are consulted on the evaluation of articles. Once an article has been selected, the Editor-in-Chief will contact the author with a contract and further information on the publication process.
