Acquisitions/Serials Librarian
The Duke Law Library is seeking an Acquisitions/Serials Librarian. The Law Library is a research library with a collection of over 600,000 volumes and a staff of 23, including 10 professional librarians. The Library is in the process of implementing a campus-wide Ex Libris integrated library system.
Responsibilities: The Acquisitions/Serials Librarian has primary responsibility for the acquisitions and serials operations of the Law Library, supervising 4.0 FTE paraprofessionals. The position reports to the Head of Technical Services, and works closely with the Deputy Director of the Law Library and Collection Development Committee.
The Acquisitions/Serials Librarian manages an annual materials budget of $1.35 million; prepares budget and collection analysis reports; prepares and reconciles monthly and annual expenditure reports; maintains accurate acquisition records; responsible for acquisition and receipt of library materials in all formats including electronic resources, continuations, books, serials, looseleafs, and government depository materials; oversees verification and searching of materials, ordering, receiving, payment, serials check-in, claiming, binding and handling of government depository materials; selects library vendors and evaluates their performance; manages and reports gifts in kind; manages subscriptions for electronic resources; and participates in collection development.
The Acquisitions/Serials librarian provides leadership and initiative in all matters concerning acquisitions and serials, coordinates policies and procedures with other library departments, and represents the law library in cooperative activities with other Duke libraries, and local and regional consortia.
Qualifications and Experience: The successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills; knowledge of U.S. and foreign publishing industry; the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse groups; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; willingness to learn and be flexible. An MLS or equivalent from an ALA accredited program is required. Strongly prefer candidates with technical services experience in law or academic libraries; experience with an integrated library system preferably, Ex Libris; proven managerial skills; working knowledge of foreign languages.
