Students who wish to study abroad during law school have a wide-range of options at Duke. The Law School currently offers 20 exchange programs in 17 countries, including South Africa, China, and Germany. For the 2006-2007 academic year Duke Law students participated in exchange programs in Hong Kong, Italy, Portugal, Singapore, and Spain.
In addition to its exchange programs, the Law School also offers several pre-approved externships both domestically and abroad. In previous years students have worked in the Office of the Legal Adviser at the U.S. Department of State, in the the U.S. Trade Representative Offices in Geneva, Switzerland and Washington, D.C, and at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
Note: Students must have a GPA of at least 3.00 in order to apply for either an exchange program or an externship.
