Duke Law School hosts approximately 12-15 international visitors annually. Visitors in the 2006-07 academic year came from Australia, China, Denmark, Israel, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. Due to the renovation of the Law School library, the number of visitors during 2007-08 was extremely small. The renovation is expected to be completed by the end of August 2008.
International visitors are welcome to use the facilities and resources of the Law School in order to pursue their individual research projects and may audit courses if space is available. Unfortunately, office space generally cannot be provided. Visitors may be provided with a reserved carrel in the library if a carrel is available. Visiting scholars will be invited to attend some faculty workshops and all public presentations as well as the orientation designed for international students in the beginning of the academic year. All visitors will receive training in the resources of the Law Library and the Law School’s technology and will have full access to the Law Library and the Internet. The Law School cannot offer secretarial assistance to visitors.
The Office of International Studies will assist with visa process and will refer visitors to the resources of International House, which can help with housing arrangements. The International House also provides information about programs for spouses, public schools in the area, travel in North Carolina, and other resource information that may relate to your visit.
