The Nixon Legacy: Duke Law, the Nation, the World
A panel discussion at the Law School on Nov. 14 will explore the legacy of Richard M. Nixon ’37, the only Duke Law graduate to become president of the United States. The event, titled “The Nixon Legacy: Duke Law, the Nation, the World,” will be from 6-8 p.m. in Room 3043.
Among the panelists are:
- Edward Nixon, the former president’s brother, who graduated from Duke University in 1952 and currently is president of Nixon World Enterprises, a service company based in Washington State. He continues to be heavily involved with both the Richard Nixon Foundation and the Nixon Presidential Library.
- Ole Holsti, the George V. Allen professor of political science at Duke University. Professor Holsti specializes in international and foreign policy decision-making.
- Philip Lacovara, who served as counsel to the Watergate special prosecutor and argued the Nixon tapes case before the U.S. Supreme Court. He now is a partner in an international law firm.
- Raymond Price Jr., former head of President Nixon’s writing and research staff and special consultant to the president. He collaborated with the president on the inaugural and resignation addresses and on all State of the Union Messages. He spent nine years at the New York Herald Tribune, serving as an editor and editorial writer. He currently is president of The Economic Club of New York.
The event will be moderated by David Lange, a professor of law at Duke who began his involvement with the Law School in 1971, during the heart of the Nixon era.
