Nils Jansen

Visiting Professor of Law

Professor Nils Jansen currently serves on the Law Faculty of the University of Münster, Germany. He holds the Chair for Roman Law, Legal History, German and European Private Law, and is a Principal Investigator in the Cluster of Excellence "Religion and Politics in the Cultures of Pre-Modernity and Modernity." He has also served on the university election committee. Since April 2005, Professor Jansen has been consultant to the Chinese Government with regard to a codification of tort law (as law expert of the German Gesellschaft für technische Zusammenarbeit [gtz]).

Other appointments have been the Chair for German and European Private Law, Roman Law, and Legal History at the Heinrich Heine-University, Düsseldorf; the Professorship for Private Law, Roman Law and Legal History, and Jurisprudence at the University of Augsburg.

In 1999, Professor Jansen was Assistant University Lecturer for Comparative Law at the University of Cambridge; Fellow in Wolfson College. Prior to that, he was Research Assistant at the Chair for Private Law, Roman Law and Comparative Legal History , University of Regensburg. He has held similar positions at the University of Christian Albrechts Universität, Kiel.

Professor Jansen completed his Second State Examination (OLG Munich) in May, 1998; his Rigorosum (summa cum laude) in September, 1997; First State Examination (Passau) in February 1994; and Abitur in 1986. His Habilitation was in 2002; his venia legendi is for German and European Private Law, Roman Law, Legal History, and Jurisprudence.
