Robert C. Ekstrand

Lecturing Fellow

Bob Ekstrand is a trial lawyer practicing in North Carolina. Together with his wife, Samantha (Duke Law 2001), he opened the firm of Ekstrand & Ekstrand, LLP in 2002. His principal areas of practice include criminal litigation, professional malpractice, and representation of disabled children in disciplinary proceedings and enforcement actions under the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act. Prior to opening his firm in Durham, Bob worked for Kilpatrick Stockton, LLP in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Bob received his J.D. from Duke Law School in 1998, and his B.A. in Literature summa cum laude from the University of Maryland. While in law school, he served as editor-in-chief of Law & Contemporary Problems and was a member of the Moot Court Board. At the University of Maryland, he was vice-president of the student body, and the College of Arts & Humanities awarded him the Highest Academic Achievement Award for his thesis on Shelley’s Prometheus Unbound. He was also awarded the University's "Byrd-Elkins" medal for outstanding student leadership in 1995. During his Junior year, Bob was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa.

Robert and Samantha live in Durham, North Carolina with their daughter, Emmaline, and their triplets, Eliza, William and Samuel.
