Laura N. Beny
Visiting Professor of Law
Since joining the University of Michigan Law School in 2003, Professor Beny has taught Corporate Finance, Enterprise Organization, International Finance, the Public Corporation, and an advanced seminar in law and finance. Her research interests include law and economics, finance, political economy, development, and the Sudan.
In 2007 and 2008, she advised the Government of Southern Sudan on corporate governance and transparency in the private sector. In September 2006, she presented testimony based on her research on insider trading before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. Before coming to Michigan, she practiced private and pro bono law at Debevoise & Plimpton, an international law firm based in New York City. Professor Beny earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in economics at Harvard University, her J.D. at Harvard Law School, and her B.A. in economics at Stanford University.
Her work has been published in the American Economic Review, American Law and Economics Review, and Journal of Corporation Law, among others, and will be forthcoming in the Annual Review of Law and Social Science.
