The Public Domain: Enclosing the Commons of the Mind - A Conversation with Professor James Boyle

Hosted by the Duke Law & Technology Review and the Intellectual Property & Cyberlaw Society. In this interview styled lecture, Professor Boyle, author of THE PUBLIC DOMAIN: ENCLOSING THE COMMONS OF THE MIND, will explain his concerns regarding the 'Second Enclosure Movement' that is privatizing the intellectual commons. Using examples as diverse as hip hop sampling, synthetic biology, disintegrating films and open source software, he will propose his solutions for the future of the public domain. He will also take questions from the audience at large. Professor Boyle teaches Intellectual Property and is the Faculty Advisor for the Duke Law & Technology Review. Members of DLTR and IPCS will be on-hand to answer any questions about their respective organizations. 1Ls who are interested in Intellectual Property, DLTR, IPCS, or simply have not yet heard Professor Boyle speak are highly encouraged to attend.
