The BP Oil Spill Comes to Court

November 21, 2011 • 12:30 PM • Law School 4055

The oil spill that began in April 2010 at BP's Deepwater Horizon rig on the Macondo well in the Gulf of Mexico has spawned an enormous and complex web of litigation, which has been consolidated in the courtroom of Judge Carl Barbier, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Two Duke Law experts will explain the evolution of this massive mass tort case: Professor Francis McGovern, who is serving as Special Master to Judge Barbier to manage this case; and Kat Shea '10, who served as a law clerk to Judge Barbier in 2010-11. The discussion will be moderated by Professor Jonathan Wiener. Lunch provided. Co-sponsored by the Environmental Law Society.
