Student Papers Series
The Duke Law Student Paper Series is a group that seeks to foster student scholarship; it is open to all JD, LLM, and SJD students. Although the law school offers many opportunities to write, the Student Paper Series presents a unique forum for:
- Presenting ideas
- Developing arguments for a student note, research paper, or other work
- Improving writing skills
- Learning to provide critical feedback, and
- Participating in intellectually stimulating discussions.
The Series meets every Thursday at 12:15 p.m. to hear a student presentation. Students are welcome to present works at all stages of the writing process, ranging from ideas to outlines to rough drafts to the final paper. However, you do not need to present to participate. Indeed, one of the most valuable skills that can be developed is learning how to give constructive criticism.
The Series also provides information for students interested in publishing and academia. Throughout the year, we will host panels on subjects such as beginning a career in legal academia, tips on preparing a submission for publication, and using ExpressO.
Faculty sponsors for the Student Paper Series are Professor Barak Richman and Professor Ralf Michaels.
