Public Interest Lawyers since 1776

George Wythe, the first American law professor and co-draftsman of the Declaration of Independence, envisioned a profession devoted to the political leadership of a democratic society. This seminar will consider the extent to which his vision has been fulfilled. Attention will be given to many individual careers and to historic events in which lawyers played important roles. Do those considered merit our admiration or our disdain?

Please note that course organization and content may vary substantially from semester to semester and descriptions are not necessarily professor specific. Please contact the instructor directly if you have particular course-related questions.
