Low Income Taxpayer Clinic

The Low Income Taxpayer Clinic provides students with the opportunity to learn communication, counseling and negotiations skills by representing clients before the Internal Revenue Service. The LITC will represent qualified clients before the IRS with respect to disputed matters involving Collection and/or Examination matters.

The LITC has entered to a letter agreement with the United States Tax Court that it will inform unrepresented taxpayers that the LITC will represent them before the Court. It is anticipated that this agreement will result in the LITC being involved in pre-trial negotiations to settle with the Appeals office; participate in pre-trial informal discovery, developing the case for trial and ultimately trying any case before the United States Tax Court which can not be resolved.

Students must attend an intensive orientation on Saturday, January 26th, 2008 from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Please note that course organization and content may vary substantially from semester to semester and descriptions are not necessarily professor specific. Please contact the instructor directly if you have particular course-related questions.
