Installing Printers
The Novell Vista Windows client client does not include printing capability. You also need to install the Vista iPrint client, as follows:
- Your computer must be running Vista Business or Vista Ultimate. The iPrint client does not work with the Vista Home editions.
- You must have installed Vista Service Pack 1. If you have not installed it, use the Windows Update feature to install it. Note that downloading and installing service pack 1 may take 60 - 90 minutes.
- Open Internet Explorer as Administrator: Right-click on the I.E. icon and select "Run as administrator."
- Browse to http://srnserv.law.duke.edu/ipp.
- Select the link "Install iPrint Client." Accept the default prompts, and reboot the computer when prompted to do so.
- Following restart, again open Internet Explorer as Administrator: Right-click on the I.E. icon and select "Run as administrator."
- Browse to http://srnserv.law.duke.edu/ipp.
- Under "Install Printer" select "ControlStationPrinters." Accept the default prompts. When prompted to authenticate, for the user name or login name enter your information in the following style: "cn=lawid,ou=srn,o=law" omitting the quotes and substituting your own LawID where indicated.
- If you find that you are unable to authenticate, try entering your login name in the follwing style: ".lawid.srn.law" omitting the quotes and substituting your own lawid where indicated.
- Logon to the Novell server with the Novell NetWare client.
- Select Start | Printers and Faxes
- Select 'Add a printer' to start the "Add Printer Wizard."
- Click on Next and select 'A Network printer, or a printer attached to another computer.’
- Click Next to continue.
- For the printer name, click Next. The system will browse for network printers.
- Double click NDPS printers, then Double click NDPS Controlled Access Printers.
- Double click SRN.LAW and select "ControlStationPrinters."
- At the 'Hardware Installation’ Warning screen select 'Continue Anyway’
- The printer driver will be installed.
- Open Safari to http://srnserv.law.duke.edu/ipp
- Select "Install iPrint Client."
- Afer completing the installation, restart Safari.
- Open Safari to http://srnserv.law.duke.edu/ipp
- Select MacControlStationPrinters. (If you experience an error where the browser reports that there is an error communicating with the printer, please install the combo update from Apple - this will take a while - and repeat from step 4.)
- If prompted for a user name and password, enter your Macintosh user name and password.
- User Services will need to associate your Mac user name with your LawID, so that your print jobs will be listed when you logon at a printer control station. Please determine your Mac short user name by opening the Users folder on the hard drive and noting the name of your "Home" folder. Send that name, along with your LawID name, in an email to HelpDesk@law.duke.edu.
