ePrint for 64-bit Operating Systems
64-bit Windows Vista
The Windows userid and profile need to reflect your NetID. Windows will mark the print job with your userid, which ePrint will use to identify your jobs. Note that you cannot accomplish this by changing the name of an existing account; a new account must be created if its name differs from your NetID.
- Navigate to Start > Control Panel > Programs > Turn windows features on or off. A Windows Features window will appear.
- Expand Print Services. Enable the LPR Port Monitor by clicking the check box next to it, if it is not checked. Click OK, and the window will close.
- Navigate to Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Add a printer. The Add Printer window will appear.
- Click "Add a local printer." You are prompted to choose a printer port.
- Choose "Create a new port," then change the popup to "LPR Port" and click Next. The "Add LPR compatible printer" dialog will appear.
- Enter "oitepps01.oit.duke.edu" in the field labeled, "Name or address of server providing lpd." Enter "ePrint-OIT" in the field labeled, "Name of printer or print queue on that server." Click OK, and the "Install the printer driver" dialog is displayed.
- For the Manufacturer, scroll down and select HP. Under Printers, select "HP LaserJet 4100 Series PCL6" and click Next. You are prompted to "Type a printer name."
- In the printer name field, type the name you want to call the printer on your computer ("ePrint-OIT" is recommended). Click Next. The printer will be installed, and a dialog should appear indicating successful addition of the printer. From here, you may print a test page or just click Finish.
64-bit Windows XP
- Navigate to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components. The Windows Components Wizard will appear.
- Scroll down and click to select Other Network File and Print Services. Click Details...
- In the window that appears, activate the check box next to, "Print Services for Unix," then click OK. The Other Network File and Print Services window will close.
- Click Next in the Windows Components Wizard. The component will be added. Click Finish when it is complete. You may close the Add or Remove Programs window.
- Navigate to Start > Printers and Faxes. The Printers and Faxes windows will open.
- In the sidebar on the left, click "Add a printer." The Add Printer Wizard will be displayed.
- Click Next. You will be prompted to choose a Local or Network printer.
- Choose "Local printer attached to this computer," and make sure "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer" is unchecked. Click Next. You will be prompted to select a printer port.
- Click the "Create a new port" radio button. In the popup for Type of port, select "LPR Port" and click Next. The "Add LPR compatible printer" dialog appears.
- Enter "oitepps01.oit.duke.edu" in the field labeled, "Name or address of server providing lpd." Enter "ePrint-OIT" in the field labeled, "Name of printer or print queue on that server." Click OK, and the "Install Printer Software" dialog is displayed.
- For the Manufacturer, scroll down and select HP. Under Printers, select "HP LaserJet 4100 Series PCL" and click Next. You are prompted to "Type a printer name."
- In the printer name field, type the name you want to call the printer on your computer ("ePrint-OIT" is recommended). Click Next. You are asked if you want to print a test page.
- Choose your desired option and click Next. The final dialog of the Add Printer Wizard appears. Click Finish.
- The printer will be installed. You should see it in the Printers and Faxes window.
