Check Your Email Quarantine and Modify Your Spam Control Settings

Computing Services uses M+Guardian to block spam, messages carrying viruses, and messages carrying certain attachments. You may modify how the M+Guardian filter handles apparent spam that is addressed to you. By default, all apparent spam is moved to a quarantine area where it is held for ten days, then deleted. You receive no notice of the quarantined message. However, you may set your own preferences as to how spam is handled. Your individual settings will then override the default settings. The settings you may change include these:

  • Choose whether presumed spam should be quarantined or delivered to you and tagged as "SPAM."
  • Enter addresses into your Blocked Address List to prevent delivery of messages from that address.
  • Enter addresses into your Trusted Address List to allow delivery of messages that might appear as spam but you know are legitimate.
  • Choose whether and how often to receive a summary of the messages that were placed in quarantine.
  • Change the spam or attachment filter level to make it stronger or weaker. The system default is "Strong."

You may examine messages in quarantine and release those you determine are legitimate without having to ask Computing Services to release them. In addition to the M+Guardian system, you can separately set up lists of junk mail senders within the GroupWise client by selecting Tools | Junk Mail.
