Student organizations maintain their own mailing lists on the law school mailing list system. List "administrators" can change any list setting. List "moderators" have more limited authority, including approving moderated postings.
To request creation of a list, contact Computing Services
- Public lists allow anyone to subscribe to the list.
- Private lists do not allow self-subscription. A list moderator or administrator must add the new members.
- Lists may allow postings by any list member or may restrict postings to those by moderators.
- Anyone can subscribe to a public list by visiting the list information page at https://mailman.law.duke.edu/mailman/listinfo/[listname], substituting the actual name of the email list for [listname].
Administrators can manage the list by visiting http://mailman.law.duke.edu/mailman/admin/[listname]. Or you can go to the list index page, http://mailman.law.duke.edu, select your list, then select the link to the administrator's page which you will find at the bottom or the screen.
Moderators can approve moderated messages or subscription requests for private lists by visiting http://mailman.law.duke.edu/mailman/admindb/[listname].
To add or remove members:
- Log on to the admin page (http://mailman.law.duke.edu/mailman/admin/[listname])
- Select Membership Management.
- On the resulting page you can view the list of members as a table, perhaps spread over several screens. You can use the checkboxes to change member settings.
- Select the "Submit Your Changes" button at the bottom of the page.
To add or remove several members at once:
- Select the Mass Subscription or Mass Removal link. respectively, from the Membership Management page.
- Enter the addresses, optionally followed by the user's real name in parentheses, e.g., firstname.lastname@law.duke.edu (firstname lastname), one member per line.
- Select the "Submit Your Changes" button at the bottom of the page.
