Change Your Password and Default Views

Change your GroupWise password

For security reasons, GroupWise requires you to use a password for remote access to your mail. For entering students your initial GroupWise password is the same as your LawID password. You can reset this password from within the GroupWise client or from GroupWise WebAccess.

Reset Password Using GroupWise Client

  1. Open GroupWise
  2. Select Tools, Options, Security.
  3. Type your password in the space labeled "New Password" and again in the space labeled "Confirm New Password."
  4. Be sure to check the box labeled "No password required with edirectory.
  5. Click "OK."

Reset Password Using WebAccess

  1. Open your web browser to http://webmail.law.duke.edu.
  2. Enter your login name and current password and select “Login.”
  3. Click on "Options" at the top right of the window.
  4. The password section will open. Type your old password in the field for it, then type your new password in the new password field and retype it in the confirm field.

If you are using the GroupWise client on your home or remote computer, GroupWise's built-in security encrypts the communications between your home computer and our mail system, protecting against interception of your communications. If you are using a web browser session, your session to GroupWise is encrypted by 128-bit SSL.

Remember that your GroupWise password is separate from your network login password. While you may choose to use the same "word" as the password for both the network login and GroupWise remote access, they need not be the same. Unlike your network login password, you will NOT be required to change your GroupWise password periodically.

Change Your GroupWise Default Views

As more and more e-mail messages are formatted in HTML, you may wish to more easily view them in the GroupWise client. You can change the default view for composing messages, reading messages or both as follows:

  1. Within GroupWise select Tools | Options.
  2. Open Environment by double-clicking it.
  3. Select the Views tab.
  4. To change the default for composing messages, at the bottom of the window under "Default Compose View" select the HTML radio button.
  5. To change the default for reading messages, at the bottom of the window under "Default Read View" select the HTML radio button.
  6. Select OK.
  7. Select Close.

If you choose to compose messages in HTML, please remember that subscription messages to maiser@lists.law.duke.edu must be in plain text. You can compose an individual message in plain text by opening a new compose message window and selecting View | Plain Text.
