FAQs

  • Does the clinic serve everyone in North Carolina?
Although we would like to help every child in North Carolina, we have limited our reach to the following counties: Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, Durham, Granville, Franklin, Orange, Person, Vance, Wake and Warren. If you do not live in one of these counties, you may contact us for a referral.
  • Is everyone in these counties eligible for clinic services?
We generally provide services to low-income families. Please contact the clinic office for more information or to determine eligibility.
  • How much does the clinic charge for legal services?
Nothing. To ensure equal access for all people, our clinic offers services free of charge to low-income clients.
  • Who will be handling my case - a lawyer or a law student?
The clinic is staffed by ten Duke Law students and two supervising attorneys. The students have been certified by the North Carolina State Bar to practice law before courts and administrative agencies. Under the close supervision of clinic attorneys, the students will handle most aspects of a case.
