Duke Law Transfer Student Fall 2009 OCI Policy
As a newly admitted transfer student, you are able to participate in our 2009 Fall on-campus interview program (OCI) and other 2L job searching resources located on our website at www.law.duke.edu/career. Please note that this is very time sensitive process and we strongly recommend that you follow this policy and respond promptly to all requests for information concerning job searching.
Because Fall 2009 OCI begins on Tuesday, August 18, 2009, Duke students bid on fall OCI employers during mid-June and early-July. Transfer students have two opportunities to bid on participating employers depending on the date at which their admission deposit is received. Transfer students may bid during the normal bidding periods (outlined in the OCI Manual) if a deposit for enrollment has been received prior to the start of bidding. Alternatively, if a deposit is submitted after the close of bidding, transfer students will be manually entered into interview schedules if an interview time is still available.
Option A: Deposit received by the Admissions Office between June 22 and 30, 2009:
Bidding for segment I begins on June 22, 2009 and ends on June 30, 2009. Therefore, transfer students who submit a deposit under Option A may follow the normal bidding procedures outlined in the OCI manual located on our Career Center website. (See bidding chart for deadlines and other important dates)
Option B: Deposits received by the Admissions Office after June 30, 2009:
If bidding for segment I or II has closed, then:
- A current list of participating employers for Fall 2009 OCI and OCI Questionnaire will be emailed to the email address provided.
- Within 48 hours of receiving the above packet, transfer students must complete and return the OCI Questionnaire listing the employers with whom and the cities where you would like to interview during each segment of OCI.
- Transfer students will receive priority over the list of students waiting for any opening on an employer's schedule and will be manually added to any interview slots open at that time. Additionally, should interview slots become open as students drop interviews, transfer students will be scheduled in those slots as well.
- Additionally, we encourage transfer students to contact directly employers interviewing on campus by writing and sending a resume and cover letter to the employer, explaining that you were not awarded an interview with them through our lottery process but are interested in meeting with them while they are visiting Duke.
The Career Center will work diligently throughout the season to put you in touch with employers you are interested in, and to help you obtain optimal opportunities with your job search.
