The Brick Campaign

Take the Lead and Buy a Brick

For your leadership commitment of $2,500 or more, we are pleased to recognize your gift with a brick engraved with your name, or the name of someone you wish to honor, in the landscaping that will surround a new library entrance to the Law School.

Your brick will remind today’s students that others have paved the way for their continued success, and will encourage their own philanthropy in the future.

Duke Law is strengthened by donors who understand the sustaining influence of annual giving. These leadership gifts account for nearly 60% of annual fund dollars.

Leadership giving must grow to keep pace with the explosion of new programs, faculty, journals and scholarship at Duke.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Duke Law Brick Campaign?

For your leadership commitment of $2,500 of more before June 30, 2006, we are pleased to recognize your gift with a brick with your name, or the name of someone you wish to honor, in the landscaping that will surround a new library entrance to the Law School.

How do Annual Fund leadership gifts help Duke Law?

Leadership donors account for nearly 60% of our Annual Fund dollars-turning possibilities into realities for Duke Law School. The explosion of new programs, faculty, journals and scholarship can be linked to these essential leadership gifts to the Annual Fund.

How much is a leadership commitment to the Annual Fund?

A leadership commitment to the Duke Law Annual Fund is a single fiscal year gift of $2,500 or more. Gifts at this level qualify the donor for membership in the Barrister Donor Society.

Is there a deadline to be involved in this campaign?

All leadership commitments need to be paid by June 30, 2006.

If I pledge $2,500, will I qualify for a brick?

Yes. You may make a pledge of that amount or more at any time during the fiscal year, but your pledge must be paid in full by June 30, 2006 in order to qualify. Pledges paid in subsequent fiscal years will not qualify.

Do I get more than one brick for a multi-year pledge?

We encourage donors, particularly Duke Law alumni who are celebrating a reunion in this fiscal year, to consider making a five year pledge. However, the brick incentive applies ONLY to leadership gifts made before June 30, 2006.

For example, a donor may make a five-year pledge of $2,500 per year for five years (for a total pledge of $12,500.) The donor will qualify as a Barrister in each year in which he or she pays his pledge, but only the first pledge payment made before June 30, 2006 will qualify the donor for a brick in his or her name.

Who can buy a brick?

We encourage anyone who is interested to purchase a brick. Alumni, parents, friends and law firms may participate.

What if I give my $2,500 gift to some other program or project at Duke Law or Duke University?

We are extremely grateful for all gifts to Duke Law School, whether they support the Annual Fund or many of our other worthy programs, clinics or building projects. This incentive, however, is limited to the Annual Fund. Only gifts of $2,500 or more designated to the Duke Law Annual Fund will qualify.

Donors who wish to support other programs as well might consider an additional gift in this fiscal year, or may direct his or her support to the Annual Fund this year and to a special program next fiscal year.

What will go on the brick?

A brick will have space for a name and graduation year. An order form will be sent to all brick donors to confirm wording on the brick.

May I use my brick to honor or remember someone?

Yes. When you receive your order form, fill in the information regarding the person you’d like to honor or remember.

Where will the bricks be placed?

Bricks will be used in the landscaping that will surround a new library entrance to the Law School.

When will I receive more brick information?

More information will be sent before June 30, 2006. If you have questions, contact Kris Jensen, Director of the Annual Fund, at (919) 613-7012 or jensen@law.duke.edu.
